Founded in 1829 as the political centre of the free settler Swan River Colony Perth has continued to serve as the seat of Government for Western Australia to the present day. Today Perth is also a very popular destination for many tourists. Therefore the city is also characterized by lots of beautiful vacation homes. Besides, lots of interesting attractions can be found in Perth. Some of these attractions are the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the Western Australian Museum, the Alexander Library, the State Records Office and the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts. Further attractions are the new Western Australian Maritime Museum or the Perth Concert Hall - the city's main concert venue.
